Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeepers’ trainer James Jerry says he’s been impressed with the performance of Samuel Akurugu adding that competition is good for his keepers.

Akurugu has manned the post in the last four games taking over the No.1 position from Ben Mensah.

And Coach Jerry admits he has been impressed with the performance of the keeper.

“I am happy and impressed with Samuel Akurugu’s performance because as a big team, all our three goalkeepers must be capable and up-to-the-task when duty calls,” the goalkeepers’ trainer told

“This goes for other positions too and you can see Coach Frank Nuttall has brought that to the playing body and it makes all the players want to compete and fight for positions.

“So we are not doing anything different at the goalkeeping department. The three keepers are in competition because they go through the same training and receive the same instructions so they all have to prove that they are up for the competition.

“We can see from Akurugu’s performance so far that he wants to maintain the no.1 position. He has played four matches, lost only one against Chelsea and even in that defeat, his performance was top class. So he has impressed me.”
