Accra Hearts of Oak star Malik Akowuah says the teeming fans of the club deserve huge praise and credit for standing by the team despite them losing three consecutive games.

Team Hearts were brought down to earth following an admirable 0-2 away win at Elmina Sharks when Ashgold pipped them by a lone goal in Accra. They lost two games, with the recent being the 1-0 defeat in Bechem, before returning to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday.

And Malik, who has been through the rollercoaster ride, is full of praise for the fans of the club.

“On behalf of the playing body, I will like to thank the supporters of the club for their support and patience in the past few weeks,” he told http://accraheartsofoaksc.com.

“We have not been able to put smiles on their faces but even in our struggles, they stood by us and lifted the team.

“So I believe our fans deserve credit for helping us to win our game [against Chelsea]. Our target is to go for the ultimate – to win the league – so even when things were difficult, our belief on that target did not change. We were determined to get back to winning ways and the support from our fans made that easier for us.

“I think we shot ourselves in the foot in Bechem but mistakes do happen in the game but we are grateful that the fans did not lose hope in us but still kept on with their support for us.”

Two goals from skipper Thomas Abbey, one in each half, ensured that Hearts beat Berekum Chelsea 2-0 in midweek.

“Our determination for this game was very high and we had resolved to take all three points because of the game ahead of us in Kumasi. We needed to beat Chelsea to lift our morale so our target is to win the next game and see how the rest of the games unfold,” Akowuah said.
